Let’s get to know each other
I’ve Been a Carer All My Life
Having worked in care since 1996, and being a ‘care taker’ all my life, I am all too familiar with burn-out.
I was trapped by the delusion that if I had ANYTHING left in the tank, I should be giving it to someone else, most certainly not myself!
It wasn’t until I was seen walking across the car park at work, looking drunk, that it all changed.
Because it had to.
I wasn’t, in fact, drunk, I had labyrinthitis, an infection I contracted. It was one of many viruses that had tried to floor me over the years leading up to this breakdown point.
With 5 months off work, and hundreds of hours of CBT, coaching, exercise, mindfulness, yoga, walking, and consciously relaxing, I was on the mend.
One of many™ Certified Women’s Coach
Since then I have trained further as a women’s coach with One of Many, and specialise in working with carers, and their leaders.
I believe that when you are ‘aware’ you can ‘care’ better. So many of the women I work with have shut off their connection to their own bodies and minds, and become robot-like in their approach. All the while under the same delusion I was under that if they have anything to give it should be given to others, not themselves.
Stop doing, start seeing
I developed a framework I call the “Reflective Care” framework, and it starts by looking in the mirror… as uncomfortable as that might be! It is a mindful approach to caring that Care home leaders can teach their staff, and carers themselves can use every day.
It leads to a more fulfilling and sustainable career in an industry that becomes more and more demanding, and in-demand, every year.
My vision is to empower others to lead a vital life, by feeling safe and supported. I’m on a mission to transform the care industry!
Generous dollop of fun
Joy is underrated. And for me, having some fun, was the fastest path back to health. With the vitality I have regained, I love to try new things. I’m a keen learner and socializer. I love musicals, gin, good chocolate, tea, bubble baths with a good book. Life shouldn’t feel so disconnected so I spend plenty of time in nature now, getting active, travelling, and doing adventurous things like camping in the outback – that keep me feeling alive!
